What is Conservation Technical Assistance? The Voluntary Technical Assistance Program is designed to provide a local service point and increase the capacity of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to meet with landowners and users to help identify and address opportunities, concerns and problems related to the use of natural resources.
The program is open to any group or individual interested in conserving natural resources and sustaining agriculture production. The conservation technician can help landowners and users better understand, plan, manage, protect, and utilize the natural resources on their land. We aim to promote resource stewardship, sustainable management practices and protect sensitive ecosystems on private lands in local communities by working with landowners to develop customized conservation methods that are unique to the landowner’s purpose. Assistance can help landowners:
Maintain and improve private lands and their management
Implement better land management technologies
Protect and improve water quality and quantity
Maintain and improve wildlife and fish habitat
Enhance recreational opportunities on their land
Maintain and improve the aesthetic character of private land
Explore opportunities to diversify agricultural operations and
Develop and apply sustainable agricultural systems
The conservation technician is also available to assist in the application process of Farm Bill Working Lands Programs and help develop conservation plans which may serve as an avenue to cost-share and USDA financial assistance programs. All owners, managers and others who have stake and interest in natural resource management are eligible to receive technical assistance through the NRCS. All services are at no cost to the landowner.
