About Gogebic Conservation District

Gogebic Conservation District is one of Michigan's 78 Conservation Districts.  We are providers of natural resource management services and information.  Our goal is simple: To help local citizens manage their lands and preserve our environment for a clean, healthier, economically stronger Michigan.

History

Conservation Districts were formed during the dust bowl years.  At one time we were referred to as The Soil Conservation District.  That has since changed to reflect our total environmental conservation goals.

Our Mission

Our land – its soil, water, plants and trees, wildlife, and people—are all valuable and create a community of life. Each one has its own value. We cannot harm one without harming all in some way. We have an obligation to one another and to the land to appreciate, understand, and respect each one. The Gogebic Conservation District’s mission is to educate, encourage, and promote good stewardship in every way of protecting and conserving these natural resources.

Vision:

We will work towards bringing communities together to enjoy, appreciate, value, and sustainably care for all of our natural resources to ensure the health of the land and all people for present and future generations.

We are also the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Agent for Gogebic County

If you are planning on building or doing any sort of earthwork in the county, you may require a permit.
