Liatris pycnostachia, also known as Prairie Blazing Star, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan and naturalized in the UP. Plant reaches 4 feet tall and flowers from July to August with a stalk of purple blossoms. It prefers full sun to partial shade, medium to wet soil and will grow in clay, loam or sand.
