Gardening for Health Workshop Registration

Purpose of Workshops: To educate participants on the importance of creating healthy living soil in which to grow their gardens. As well as the benefits of keeping organic waste out of our landfills and transforming it into “Black Gold”. Workshop is designed for all levels of experience, novice to professional gardeners.

 

When: Saturday June 6th, 2025, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, or as long as needed

Where: Powderhorn Farm, N11529 Powderhorn Road, Bessemer, MI 49911

(1/4mile north of Big Powderhorn Ski Resort)

 

Cost: $10 per person, limit 30 registrants. A full meal, between 3 and 4pm, iced tea, and water provided. 

 

What to expect: Part 1 1pm-3pm

Participants will be able to see up close different composting methods, Static pile, Jonson-Su, Windrow, Biodynamic, Hügelkultur, Vermicompost, Bokashi, as well as participate in building a hot compost pile which can produce compost faster, but is more labor intensive requiring frequent turning, Will also look at videos of the microbes from compost samples on the farm and compare with some store bought compost. Workshop may be filmed for later posting on social media, in which case you will need to sign a waiver to allow being filmed.


What to Expect: Part 2 After 4pm

After the meal (4pm) those wishing to take home a GCD type composter may stay and help put together a take home kit at the workshop for a special price of our actual cost of materials; about $40.00 without 2x4's or $58.00 with 2x4's.


What You Get:

A meal, ice tea and water is included with the workshop and will be served around 3pm. All registrants will take home a 5 gallon bucket with about 3 gallons of Powderhorn Farm Mother Compost and handouts.

Registrants will have the option to purchase a take home GCD Type Composter kit for the cost of materials. Everyone is welcome to stay and learn how to put one together.
